Missions Learn

For close to 100 years, Hawthorne Gospel Church has been characterized by a focus of sharing the gospel with those who have not yet heard the good news. From the sending out of our first missionary to Congo in 1939, our church’s mission’s focus has largely concentrated on a broad approach of taking the gospel locally and worldwide.  Going forward, we sense the Lord’s leading to lift our eyes to the unreached people groups (UPG’s) of North Africa.

This is because:

  • There are 371 million Muslims living in North Africa who have not yet heard the gospel.

  • We have organizational connections to help us accomplish this.

  • This focus will keep us intentional in our missions effort.

Annual Missions Conference:

Held each October, our annual Missions Conference gives us the opportunity to hear what God’s doing around the world through several of our global partners.  The Conference typically includes small and large group presentations, an international banquet, and time for prayer.

Mission Focus Sundays:

We have four quarterly mission focus Sundays during the year (3rd Sunday in January, April, July and October).  The October date also serves as our Annual Missions Conference.  The sermons on these days focus on missions, and may feature a video update from one or more global partners.  All of the offerings on these Sundays, unless otherwise designated, go to support the church’s mission’s outreach.

Vision In Action (VIA) Meetings:

VIA meetings have no set dates, but occur whenever there is a missions speaker or global partner visiting.  They are interspersed throughout the year and typically occur after the Sunday morning services.

Wheelchair project in Aswan, Egypt:
It is estimated that over 65 million people in the world need a wheelchair.  For those without a wheelchair, begging on the streets seems to be the only option for them and they also become vulnerable to human traffickers.

What if we could change that one child with a disability at a time and at the same time bring the gospel to them and their families?
We are currently partnering with a Christian hospital in Aswan, Egypt to provide wheelchairs for children with disabilities in their program.  We have sent resources to them to purchase wheelchairs and to set up a structure to maintain them.  If you would like more information on this project, contact Pastor David Schuit at 973-427-6960 or davids@hawthornegospel.org
