Top of the Hill

A Christian day camp sponsored by Hawthorne Gospel Church.

The camp is held on the picturesque property of the Hawthorne Gospel Church, 2000 Route 208, Hawthorne, NJ.  Facilities are available for both indoor and outdoor activities, rain or shine. Under the capable leadership of mature, experienced Christian young men and women, campers will enjoy full days in a Christian environment, learning new skills and developing new friendships.

Parents are responsible for the transportation of their children.  (The ample parking area permits the delivery and pickup of children away from the highway.)  Pre/post camp supervision is available starting at 8 AM and ending at 5 PM.

PROGRAM

A well-rounded day camp program will be provided for each age group.  This program includes sports, crafts, Bible study, swimming, and recreation. The programs each week will be centered around particular themes.

Sample Schedule

RED CROSS SWIMMING PROGRAM

The swimming program is directed by a qualified Red Cross water safety instructor.  Children will be encouraged to improve their swimming ability.  Special attention will be given to beginners.

WEEKLY CHECK-IN

(first day of each camp week) 
Monday, 8:00—8:45 a.m.
Camp balance for the week is due
Each child will receive a camp T-shirt his/her first week of camp
Pre/post camp supervision is available for an additional fee of $5.00 per camper for early or late care.  Arrival before 8:45 (Tuesday-Friday) is considered early care.  Pickup after 4:00 (Monday-Friday) is considered late care.

CAMPER FEE

The cost for the first week a child attends camp is $200.  Additional weeks cost $190.  The cost for additional children (in the same family) is $190 for the first week they attend and $180 per week for additional weeks.

LEADERSHIP

Mrs. Jane Brain, who is in her 23rd year as camp director, is a physical education teacher and coach at Hawthorne Christian Academy.  She received her degree in Physical Education, Health and Recreation from William Paterson University.  She has previously worked as a camp counselor at a resident camp, a water safety instructor and lifeguard, and has served in a church children’s ministry for many years.

Counselors are chosen on the basis of maturity, experience, ability to work with children, and love for God.

A qualified first aid office is maintained during regular camp hours.
